Overview:
The first thing we decided to check was course availability and there
were over 15,000 (from all over the world) to choose from of which up
to 30 can be stored in the unit - more than we would ever need.
What really impressed us next was the high resolution color screen that was exceptionally easy to read - especially for older eyes - even without the built in back light feature. The graphics were also very good.
Getting out on the course the Sonocaddie V300 automatically plotted our position in real time which was pretty impressive as we didn't have to do anything. Neither did we have to press any buttons as we moved from hole to hole as the automatic hole advance function did this for us. Distances are given in either yards or meters and showed the usual tee, fairway, hazards and green distance markers. Checked against a rangefinder these proved to be very accurate - obviously a result of the 11 satellite channels available.
We tested some of the functions such as the editing and found it to be very easy indeed. This is a very user friendly system that allows you to plot up to 6 additional points per hole very easily, quickly and accurately. The shot distance function was also easy to use and required the simple press of a button. But the Sonocaddie V300 takes this a step further and can track your entire game - keeping score and a variety of statistics that allow you to analyze your game. This is a fantastic feature to work out your strengths and weaknesses and play accordingly. Statistics for up to 100 games can be stored in the Sonocaddie V300 giving you an extremely accurate analysis of your game and these can be reviewed as often and wherever you like. You can even plot your way points (where your bad shots went) so that you can work out where you are going wrong more often. For example you may miss left more often than you miss right.
We never had the opportunity to test the claim that the Sonocaddie V300 is waterproof but all else was true and we have checked with users who confirm this is so.
