What We Think Of The Skycaddie SG5

The Skycaddie SG5 is the flagship model from Skycaddie and features everything that  has given Skycaddie is excellent reputation.
Skycaddie have 3 different annual plans which are designed to cater for all golfers - details are given below.
The Skycaddie SG5 is an outstanding Golf GPS that is easy to use, easy to read and has the backing of a reliable company.  If you want a quality Golf GPS with a high resolution color screen then Skycaddie SG5 is a very good choice.
As golfers we are fortunate that there has been considerable advances in technology.  This has meant that there are now  more color screen models available  to choose from.
Not only have the screens improved but so have the features - particularly in regard to details pertaining to the green.
The Skycaddie SG5 may lose market share as a result because combined with any of the annual plans the initial cost is at least $460.00 making other brands extremely competitive for those without a budget.
The Skycaddie SG5 does have the shot distance feature but does not keep scores or retain statistics such as fairways and greens in regulation and putts per round.

The Skycaddie SG5 is a very attractive yet rugged model that has proved very popular since it's launch.
Courses are all mapped and retained by Skycaddie for members to download at their leisure.  Up to 10 courses can be stored in the unit itself and this seems  adequate for most golfers.  If more courses are needed you simply download them from Skycaddie but only 10 can be stored on the unit.
With the Intelligreen technology you are given the shape and distances to any point on the green from any approach angle.  Useful for when you miss the fairway and need to know the distance to the green from your current position and not just from a point on the fairway.  
The mapping is extremely detailed with all hazards, creeks and any other relevant targets Included. Distances to reach and carry hazards are given with up to 40 points per hole recorded.  
You are able to map up to 3 points on each green but you cannot map your own course and would need to request Skycaddie to do this for you.  This is to maintain uniformity with the mapping.
The Skycaddie SG5 is very easy to use even with one hand.
The shot distance function tells you exactly how far you hit each club in your bag.  The more you use this function the more proficient your golf will get as you become familiar with your own game.
Scoring and analyzing your game (fairways and greens in regulation and number of putts per round etc.) cannot be recorded on the Skycaddie SG5.

Although slightly bigger than the other Skycaddie models the Skycaddie SG5 is still small enough and light enough to carry in your pocket or clipped on your belt.

There are three annual membership plans to choose from:

• The first of these is th Birdie Plan which costs $29.95 a year.  With the Birdie plan you have unlimited downloads to courses in your own state.
• The second and most popular plan is the Eagle plan at $49.95 a year and this entitles you to unlimited downloads in your country.
• The third option is the Double Eagle plan at $59.95 a year and this gives you unlimited downloads for any courses in the world.

Using any good golf GPS is like having a  caddie with you all the time.  With the Skycaddie SG5 the detailed mapping and shot distance function will give you greater confidence when playing.  Knowing exactly how far it is to particular points on the course and knowing exactly which club you will need removes any negative concerns you might normally have about under or over clubbing.
This will lead to better scoring which in turn leads to winning more often!
Keeping up with the four ball in front will also no longer be a problem.

With its back light facility and large  220 X 176 pixel screen the Skycaddie SG5 is easy to read in all lighting conditions.

The unit is powered by a built in lithium battery that will give you 14 hours of use.  Converted to rounds of golf that would be at least 3 full rounds of 18 holes.

All Skycaddie models are very accurate for two reasons.  

• The first is that by using real live people, in the form of skilled golfers and on-site caddies, to do the mapping, using top quality survey-grade equipment, the level of detail is second to none.  
• The second is that you will always have access to a large number of satellites from which to obtain a signal.
