The GPS Golf Guru is the hottest GPS at the moment and looks likely to become the firm favorite amongst golfers in the very near future. 

Using the GPS Golf Guru one cannot but help feel that here is a GPS designed for golfers by someone who knows exactly what you want.  Sure it hasn't got a color screen and 3 dimensional graphices but this is a GPS where a lot of thought has gone into producing something that delivers on what you really need - extremely accurate distances and simple but highly effective software. Helping you to become familiar with and master your own skills through detailed statistics.  After all the real purpose of any equipment you buy is to improve your game. Never again worry about having the right club for the distance. Standing over a shot knowing that you have the right club in your hand gives you a sense of confidence which is often reflected in the execution of the shot. Simply one less (big) thing to worry about.
  
Golf Guru's big claim to fame is its customer service and on this point alone seems to have converted a lot of people to commit to being life time customers.   Any queries we had were answered within hours and this included mapping courses which weren't yet in the Guru library.  This library is growing daily as more and more people are having courses mapped and now stands at over 7,000.

The GPS Golf Guru is small enough to fit comfortably and unobtrusively in your pocket so that it is always with you when you are playing your shot. What is the point of having a GPS if you keep leaving it in your cart when you go off to play a shot?  Or worse one that you keep forgetting to pick up off the fairway where you placed it before playing your shot!

The initial price of the GPS Golf Guru is reasonable and with no fees for uploading additional courses together with the incredible customer service and accuracy- which is second to none - the Golf Guru will  instantly let you know you have made the right choice.
 
With 16 satellites to choose from the GPS Golf Guru  is the most accurate GPS on the market and is not affected by overhead tree cover - you will even be able to get readings when under a roof.

The buttons are above the screen which took a bit of getting used to but proved to be a useful feature as the unit can be held in the palm of the hand and the controls manipulated by the thumb, similar to texting on a mobile phone.

The outlines of greens can mapped and pins can be moved according to the position of the day which means you know the exact distance to the pin and not only to the front, center and back of the green. This is the same intelligreen system that other top brands use.

As mentined the screen is not a color screen and it also does not have a backlight simply because it is not needed.  The transflective technology does away with the need for back lighting and the screen is easy to read in all lighting conditions.

The GPS Golf Guru is powered by an internal rechargeable battery that just goes on and on for an incredible 14 hours according to the manufacturer - ours went on for just under 16 hours.

Other Features:

The Sonocaddie XV2 has a very good reputaion as a reliable and accurate GPS.

The size and weight of the Sonocaddie XV2 means that it fits easily in your pocket and will be with you wherever you are on the course and not left in your cart or some other place when you need it.

The battery life, if you use standard AAA batteries, is quite short at about 10 hours but keeping an extra set of AAAs in your bag means never running down on power and it is always a simple matter of stopping off somewhere to get a spare set.  Using rechargeable batteries to power you Sonocaddie XV2 will give you a lot more use - as much as 6 games.

With 11 satellite channels available you shouldn't have any problems with dropping distances and you will find that the Sonocaddie XV2 is very accurate.

With it automatic hole advance there is no fussing and pressing buttons as you move from one hole to the next.  One handed operation is simple and the built in scorecard is a great feature especially in wet conditions - no more soggy scorecards.

having the shot distance function is also a great feature as standing over a shot knowing that you have the right club enhances your confidence and allows you to play a tension free shot.  The club for the distance is right all you have to do is hit it.

The iGolf Neo is the smallest of all the models we reviewed and we were extremely impressed with the functionality of this durable and lightweight model that weighs only 2.5 oz. and measures 1.75" x 3.25" x 0.75".  The size of the iGolf Neo allows for it to easily be carried in your pocket (ideal for those players that walk the course) without losing the signal from the 20 satellite stations available. This many satellites allows for incredibly accurate measuring with distances being correct to within 1 - 2 yards.

With a built in lithium-ion battery the iGolf Neo will give you up to 16 hours of play - more than any of the other top selling models. It  can be charged directly off a wall socket or from a UBS port whilst you are downloading from a selection of 16,000 courses.

The iGolf Neo is ideal for all types of players.  It comes standard with 5 golf courses of your choice and, if this isn't enough for you, can be increased by 100 per year for an additional annual fee of $34.99.  Once you have downloaded a course it "belongs" to you and can be stored on your PC.  This means that you can stop the annual subscription at any time you want.  This type of annual subscription is unique to iGolf.  With more than 16,000 courses worldwide to choose from the iGolf Neo is ideal for those out of state and overseas golfing holidays.

The unit has a built in 'shot distance' feature which allows you to record exactly how far you hit each club in your bag - a fantastic shot and time saving facility - no more guesswork in terms of distance - and the more you use it the more proficient you become.

The screen is easy to read in any lighting conditions with the back light facility.  Sturdy and water resistant for those bad weather days.

There was only one small thing we didn't like about the iGolf Neo and that was the belt clip which seemed a bit flimsy.  It didn't worry us at all as we opted to carry ours in our pocket.

Unfortunately the iGolf Neo is not yet MAC compatible.

Overview:

The Golf  Buddy Plus was a bit unfortunate to lose out to our number one contender because it too is a very good GPS.

The unit holds 1000 courses all of which are loaded for free. Not only can this baby be used anywhere in the world but it also has a multitude of language options and a huge international course library to choose from.

Being the size it is makes for very easy one handed operation and functions are extremely simple to use. Startup is a breeze as you can use it straight out of the box.   Individual  mapping is very simple  and up to 13 custom points can be added per hole.  The distance remaining to the target is continuously, and automatically,displayed so there is no need to keep pressing buttons.

The dynamic green view keeps you informed as to the correct distance to the front, center and back of the green regardless of your angle of approach.  The pin can be 'moved' on the green with the intelligreen technology giving your the exact yardage to the hole.

The standard reference points of tee, fairway, hazards and greens (FCB) are all mapped and the Golf Buddy Plus has the built in shot distance feature allowing you to select the right club for the distance.
The built in rechargeable lithium ion battery will give you 10 hours of use which means at least 2 rounds comfortably.

Cons:

Not MAC compatible and cannot be run off batteries.

Bottom Line:

The Golf Buddy Plus is a very reliable unit packed with features.

Highly recommended by Digi Caddie and those who own one.
