Garmin is one of the most trusted of GPS manufacturers and the GPS-8 is developed to the same high standards.

Designed specifically with golfers in mind the Golf Logix GPS-8 is everything a golfer needs in a GPS.

Pros:
  • Excellent technical support and quick turn around time.
  • If your course is not already mapped it is a simple request to get it on.  This usually takes a couple of days.
  • The only GPS that is 100% waterproof. So your investment is protected from the elements.
  • Simplicity itself.  This is possibly the units biggest plus. The  Golf Logix GPS-8 requires no buttons to be pushed whilst playing. Everything is done automatically.  Fire it up and you're away.  Distances are updated constantly as you move from tee to green.
  • Runs on 2 AA batteries so there is no chance of you forgetting to charge it and arriving at the course with a dead unit.  The unit can also stay with your bag and will therefore not be inadvertently left behind.  More than 4 rounds of golf with one set of batteries have been recorded.  Our research indicates this is amongst the longest lasting battery life of all units reviewed.
  • Sturdy construction is a major feature of the Garmin range and the GPS-8 is no exception.
  • Over 16000 courses available and the unit itself can be loaded with 20 - enough for most golfers.
  • Very lightweight at just over 5 oz with the batteries loaded.
  • Points of reference include distances- in either yards or meters - to the front and back of hazards, beginning and end of fairways, and to the front, center and back of the green.
  • Built in shot distance function which lets you know exactly how far you hit your woods and irons. This is a fantastic feature to assist in improving your golf.
  • Comes with 12 GPS channels and a 12 month warranty.
  • Excellent visibility in bright sunlight plus a back light feature for those late afternoon  rounds.
  • Size: 4.4"H x 2.0"W x 1.2"D  Fits in trouser pocket quite easily or can be left on bag or cart as required.
Cons:

  • The annual subscription fee of $29.95.  Whilst this gives you unlimited downloads to all the courses available it does mean that the unit will not operate without the subscription.  Its a small fee to pay for this excellent technology- knowing that the courses in your Golf Logix GPS-8 are up to date and include any course alterations that take place..
  • Once downloaded the courses do not 'belong' to you and cannot be transferred to other units.
  • When downloading a new course all the existing courses are deleted so you have to re-select all the courses you want retained.
  • No self editing modes available.
Conclusion.

The Golf Logix GPS-8 is an ideal model for the golfer who just wants the facts.  How far to where and what are the dangers in between?
Thousands of Garmin GPS-8 users attest to its reliability and functionality.
If the $29.95 per annum is not an issue then this is an excellent unit.
